Good News! WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Hoorah!!!! At last some good news…

My World of Difference UK application has been shortlisted from 11, 000 entries and I am now one of the final 750 people who may win one of the 500 places.

Below are my thoughts on how I can enhance the work of my chosen charity, The Albert Kennedy Trust.

The next stage is for my two referees to tell Vodaphone how wonderful I am and I have been advised to contact the Albert Kennedy Trust to warn them of the application.

What may help would be for you to also email or call them to stress just how valuable an asset I would be.

What do you think?

If you are happy to help me to help them, then please email

Why would you like to work with your chosen charity?

The Albert Kennedy Trust provide support for vulnerable young people who are either coming to terms with sexuality or gender identity and who have been abandoned by traditional family support networks. These disenfranchised and disillusioned young people are much more likely to fail in education or employment and are more at risk of engaging in destructive behaviours such as substance abuse, unhealthy relationships and suicide ideation; something which is augmented when that young person finds his/herself homeless. The AKT work with a skeleton staff and the need for their services far outweighs the current provision; meaning many vulnerable young people live on the streets, unsupported and isolated and unable to fulfill their personal and professional potential . I am an equality advocate and care passionately for the well being of all vulnerable young people, have the skill set required to understand the needs of AKT clients and bring vision and values which compliment the organizational goals of the charity.

What skills or experience do you have that will benefit your chosen charity?

A graduate of Trinity College of Music, London and the Institute of Education, University of London, I have worked internationally as a director, teacher and personal/professional development facilitator for more than 20 years; most recently as Head of Department in Further Education.

I am an associate with The Pacific Institute, personal tutor, public speaker and freelance writer; regularly writing for www.ambiente.us, One Nation and Polari.  Stuart Milk, nephew of Harvey Milk and Equality Advocate, has said“I love your work, which is vital to show the richness of embracing and celebrating our wonderful diversity. As Harvey would say, you’re bringing medicine into the world that the world needs! Thank you!”

I am currently finalizing my book, Never Blend In, supported by The Trevor Project, which highlights and challenges social perceptions of the LGBT community, helps readers to understand the causes of low self-esteem and, through a unique collection of inspirational interviews with well known and everyday people, inspires and encourages the younger generation, or anyone questioning their validity, to lead a balanced, fulfilling and dignified life.

A background in arts and education management, a solid understanding of Cognitive Behavioural Techniques and passion for Equality can only enhance AKT.

What would be your role in the charity you have chosen to work for?

A) TRANSFORMATIONAL WORKSHOP PROVIDER AND B) PUBLICIST

Fast paced, interactive and directly related to the goals of AKT, I can provide CREATIVE CHALLENGE DAYS for both staff and service users which encourage the development of personal efficacy through personal reflection and group collaboration.

KEY CONCEPTS: Self-esteem, Perception, authenticity, goal setting, personal efficacy, Self-talk

STRATEGIES: Discussion, personal reflection, collaborative & Devised Theatre, Improvisation based on archetypes, Script work, Technology as a tool, visualization, affirmation

These workshops are directly tailored to enhance the great work already being carried out and to the achievement and progression goals of the charity since they look at individual uniqueness, labeling, developing self-belief and setting both short and long term goals.

PUBLICIST: As a writer and public speaker I have connections nationally and internationally, a large following and both media and celebrity interest in my work. I can enthusiastically and eloquently promote the charity verbally or in written media

What difference do you hope to make for your chosen charity?

OPTIMIZE PUBLIC AWARENESS, FUNDING POTENTIAL AND BROADEN THE SERVICE PROVISION TO ENCOURAGE PERSONAL OWNERSHIP AND PERSONAL EFFICACY TO ENHANCE QUANTITY OF PROVISION WHICH CAN BE OFFERED.

WORKSHOP facilitation will enhance both the quality and quantity of provision offered to service users AND provide a lifeline to those vulnerable young people in crisis who desperately require creative solutions to their housing and education problems. Since these are uniquely tailored, fast paced, interactive and transformational, they enhance self-esteem will increase positive outcomes in housing, education and employment for clients who will optimize their personal and professional potential and contribute themselves in turn to society.

PUBLICITY: Increased media coverage and the backing of prominent supporters will raise awareness, increase funding opportunities and enhance the level of service that can be provided. Organisational growth will lead to greater support for those in need of this vital organization.
