It is more important than ever to be realistic about the mindset of the country and understand that there is work to be done to ensure that communities work together to prevent greater division. This setback was a wake up call that should remind us that there is no place for complacency when it comes to our human rights and there is no place for impotency when it comes to protecting the marginalised in our society. If anything, we should be galvanised, more than ever, to do good, to speak up and to give hope to those who feel excluded and targeted by the blatant bigotry that this election has encouraged.
